CR-B FFA Students Attend FFA Leadership Conference

On April 19th and 20th, Coon Rapids-Bayard FFA members attended the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. Students attended sessions, workshops, and the career show. Here are some highlights from this year's convention.

Madison Mohr and Mia Leighty participated in the Chapter Exhibit Contest and received a silver rating. Chapter Exhibit is an event that displays information on one chapter project or activity. The information had to include how this one feature of the annual program was organized, conducted and what results were accomplished. They displayed information from our Veteran's Day Breakfast.

Cassidy Baker was recognized during the 3rd General Session for her SAE project. Cassidy received 2nd place in the Specialty Animal Production Proficiency Award Area. Cassidy has a project focused on Beekeeping.

Each year, the courtesy corp helps ensure that the convention runs smoothly. The following members served the Iowa FFA Association at convention this year as courtesy corp members: Peyton Schultes, Laura Anthofer, Kadey Olson, Emma Hart, Shyla Greene, Chance Schultes, and Madison Mohr. These members helped run contests, served as door attendants, set up for contests, and worked backstage at sessions.

Lauren Derner and Mia Leighty served as chapter delegates at the business session. These members voted for the new state officers, heard committee reports, and helped make decisions related to the state constitution and bylaws.

During the 4th General Session the Iowa FFA Degree recipients were recognized for 2020 and 2021. Jacob Anthofer, Trevor Hoffman, Jesse Schultes, Madi Schultes, and Mira Esdohr received their degree in 2020 and Lauren Derner and Cassidy Baker were 2021 recipients. Only 5% of the FFA members in Iowa receive the degree each year. To receive the Iowa FFA Degree, FFA members must meet the following standards: 1) Have been an active FFA member for at least 24 months; 2) Have completed at least two years of systematic instruction in agricultural education; 3) Have earned and productively invested at least $1,500 or worked at least 375 hours in a supervised agricultural experience program; 4) Have a satisfactory scholastic record; 5) Have demonstrated leadership abilities from a specific list of activities; 6) Have completed 25 hours of community service; and 7) Have participated in at least five different FFA activities above the local level.
