Math Shapes Up The Season!
by Mrs. Royer
December 20, 2011
Students in Mrs. Royer's math classes used a Circumference Tree to experience measurement (the chains), congruency (the polyhedrons under the tree) , similarity (comparing the large and small hexahedrons), rotational symmetry (the snowflakes), inscribing shapes into polygons and then bisecting angles (the stars upon the tree) circumference (undoing the circumference formula to determine the radius of the tree without measuring it directly), surface area of the polyhedrons, and volume of the polyhedrons.
Eighth grade students were further challenged to investigate whether Double Stuf TM cookies are truly double stuffed when compared to the original.
