Family Reading Night

'Healthy Families- Healthy World' was the theme for this year's Family Fun Night. The event was held at Deal Elementary School on Thursday, April 19 from 6:30-7:30. Families were invited to participate in different stations all revolving on how we can keep our families, our brains, and our world Healthier. Over 160 people came to the night, making it a big hit! Some of the stations included planting sunflowers in recycled milk cartons for families to take home and plant. They are asked to take a picture of the sunflower after it blooms in the fall, and bring it back to school to be showed off on a bulletin board. Families also got an opportunity to read together and write a family book together about how they are a healthy family.
Families really enjoyed exercising with recycled materials. The computer lab held a center for families to check out some neat websites to help strengthen their minds. And finally, everyone got a chance to paint toast with colored milk, toast it, and enjoy a treat. 'Healthy Hot Spots' where placed all over the school as a means for families to roll a dice and do some quick exercises too. Third graders had a blast advertising the night by reading announcements over the intercom each day during the week.

"Overall, the night was a tremendous success!" said teacher Connie Ankenbauer, member of the planning team. "Families sure do appreciate being given time to come into school and have fun reading, writing, doing math, and exercising together! We really enjoyed this night and owe thanks to all of our support staff and teachers for helping to pull it off. It was great to see such a crowd come to school!"
