CR-B students performed at Meistersinger Honor Choir

January 28, 2019

On Sunday, January 20th and Monday, January 21st, three Coon Rapids-Bayard Choir members were selected and performed at the Wartburg College Meistersinger Honor Choir in Waverly, Iowa. The concert was conducted by Dr. Lee Nelson and Dr. Nicki Toliver, both professors of choral activities at Wartburg College and also by composer Abby Betinis of Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. Sydney Honold and Annah Heck, both seniors, were selected for the Mixed Voice Choir and Cassidy Baker, sophomore, was selected for the inaugural Treble Voice Choir.

Meistersinger Honor Choir is a prestigious choir that is comprised of the best musicians across the state. They are nominated by their directors based on ability, merit, and character. There were 250 students were selected for the Mixed Voice Choir and 100 students were selected for the Trebel Voice Choir  from sixty-nine different school districts.

Along with learning the music for the performance, students were treated to musical selections performed by all the different choral ensembles that Wartburg College provides to the students and also individual vocal solos by selected students. Some students also participated in vocal lessons with the Wartburg College vocal faculty. St. Michael-Albertville (Minnesota) also performed during the final concert on Monday night.

When Cassidy was asked to describe her experience, she said, "Since I have never really done something like this, the camp was a great experience. Meeting new people and sharing our love for music was my favorite part. Can’t wait to do this again!”
