Elementary PBIS Assembly

October 03, 2018

This past week, grades K-4 had their first Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) assembly.  The focus of the assembly was to connect to the school wide expectations, Crusader PRIDE, which stands for Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence. Students enjoyed a song, about skills for learning, sung by both Mrs. Davis’ and Mr. Ernst’s third grade classes. The skills for learning have been taught by Mr. Lynch in guidance classes to all students K-4.  The four skills; focusing, listening, being assertive, and using self-talk, are part of the Second Step social-emotional learning program. The students were then given the opportunity to practice these skills by playing the game My Turn, Your Turn, also part of the Second Step program, with Ms. Nees’ kindergarten class leading. To finish out the assembly, Mrs. Halbur, the elementary principal, handed out awards to students based on what their strengths are.  It is Mrs. Halbur’s goal to get to know each and every student and what they are good at. She will keep her eyes and ears open to be able to award every student by the end of the year.
