IHSMA Outstanding Performance Award & Solo and Small Ensemble Contest

Congratulations to the Coon Rapids-Bayard Treble Clef Ensemble on their performance at the Iowa High School Music Association Solo & Small Ensemble Contest held at Woodbine High School on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Coon Rapids-Bayard had three performances participate in the contest. The vocal performances were accompanied by Lula Garnes of Bayard and the Coon Rapids-Bayard vocal department is under the direction of Rebecca Fiscus. 

The Treble Clef Ensemble (comprised of Senior, Savannah Kolars; Juniors, Annah Heck, Sydney Honold and Jada Thompson; and Sophomore, Alisabeth Kolars) received a Division I "Superior" and the Outstanding Performance Award for their performance of “The Awakening” by Joseph M. Martin. The girls will be performing their piece one more time on Wednesday, May 9th in Ames at the ISU Music Hall during the Outstanding Performers Showcase. The Outstanding Performance Award, also known as Best of Center, is awarded by the center judge for their pick of an outstanding performance. Only one is given for each center and it is at the discretion of the judge to give the award. This is a major honor for the girls and all their hard work.

Also performing solos at the contest were Annah Heck and Sydney Honold. Annah Heck received a Division II "Excellent" rating for her vocal performance of Mark Haynes arrangement of “Simple Gifts “ & “Tu lo sai” by Giuseppe Torelli. Sydney Honold also received a Division II "Excellent" rating for her piano solo titled “Hungary: Rapsodie Mignonne, Op. 410” by Carl Koelling.
