3rd Annual Education Foundation Trivia Night

Save the Date - Saturday, Feb. 24th

January 02, 2018

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Education Foundation will hold their 3rd Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser on Saturday, February 24th, at the American Legion Building located in Coon Rapids. NEW this year, an additional two rounds of Trivia have been added! “Vacation Destinations” will be the theme of the night and participants can wear themed attire – dress for a Hawaiian Luau, a day on the ski slopes, a European vacation or whatever your favorite destination may be. Prizes will be awarded to ‘Best Dressed’ and teams can also decorate their tables in honor of their favorite destination.

Each trivia team can have up to eight players and the cost is $200 per table. It will be a night full of trivia and other fun games. Please download the registration form here or please contact Keely Kinnick Sanden at (515)-577-3888 or at Keely.KinnickSanden@MMICgroup.com for more information.

Proceeds from Trivia Night support the CR-B Teacher Grant program and it is the largest annual fundraising event for the Foundation. Education Foundation President Keely Kinnick Sanden said, “Our Trivia Nights have been a huge success and we are excited for another fun evening! We filled every table we had last year, so we encourage teams to register early! We also heard from people that they were having so much fun, they didn’t want the night to end. So, new this year, we are adding two more rounds of trivia!” The board expresses their gratitude towards the community for their support. “We are humbled by the support of our local businesses. Because of them, the event generates very little cost, which means we are able to give more to the school.”

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Education Foundation was created to provide supplemental funding to the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. The funds raised are intended to enhance the quality of education for all students and secure a sound financial future for the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. This is achieved in two ways – teacher grants and the endowment fund.

The Foundation’s main fundraising activities through the year go towards providing funds to the district in the way of teacher grants to enhance learning opportunities in the classroom. After an application is submitted, the application is reviewed by both the Superintendent and Foundation Board. If approved by both parties, the district receives the funds from the Foundation and the teacher can proceed with the project. In the past, the grant requests have paid for things like art supplies for an art conference, a subscription to math magazine, field trip entry fees, robotic kits for use in the classroom, and classroom gardens. At the beginning of this school year, the Education Foundation granted its second largest teacher grant to the district. $1,000 was granted for the school’s PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) Program.

Partnering with Endow Iowa, the Coon Rapids-Bayard Education Foundation created an endowment fund to benefit the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. In 2014, an endowment fund was created as a long term funding mechanism for CR-B academic programing. The minimum donation to be eligible for the CR-B Endowment Fund is $500 annually for a minimum of 3 years or a lump sum donation of $1,500. The Endowment Fund made its first payment to the school district during spring 2016 in the amount of $35,000, which administrators allocated towards the reading, music, and practical arts programs at CR-B. Last spring, the second Endowment payment of $35,000 was allocated towards the Agriculture and Science programs. These annual payments from the Endowment fund will continue in perpetuity and the next $35,000 payment will be made to the school district this spring. Individuals and businesses who have not yet given are encouraged to contribute to the endowment fund. The money paid to the school district each spring is interest earned over the past year while the principle is reserved. With that, the endowment fund provides a never ending stream of income for the school district.
