Seniors:  This will be a very busy year for you.  I hope you will look at this web page for information on colleges and scholarship opportunities.  

If you are planning to attend Iowa Central Community College, please check the number of scholarship opportunities.  Please go to www.iowacentral.edu

 

Seniors: February

- Visit an ICAN center and work on your college and career plan.  Call (877) 2727-4692 to schedule an appointment.

- Register now to take the ACT.  Please the test dates at the bottom of this page.

- Confirm that the colleges you've applied to have received your first semester transcripts.

- Watch the mail for your acceptance letters

- Send in your college housing applications.

- Keep your grades up - second semester grades are important and can affect scholarship eligibility and college admittance.

Juniors: February

- Determine a college budget based on salary expectations for your chosen career or industry.  Visit ACTprofile.org 

-  Find information about the Iowa colleges at ICANsucceed.org/collegefairs

- Begin to schedule college visits for the spring semester.

- Make sure you enroll in senior classes that fulfill the credits you need for college.

- Download the College Cheklist from ICANsucceed.org/materials to stay organized.

- Register now for the April ACT if you plan to take it.

Marian Vaatveit Scholarship award by P.E.0. Chapter NS: This $500.00 scholarship is available for women who live in Carroll County.   The selection of the scholarship recipient is to be made on the basis of Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Desire.  Please see Mr. Orlano for an application.  Deadline is April 1st.

 

Guthrie County Rural Electric Cooperative: This scholarship is open to members of the Guthrie Co. REC.  Their are three scholarships available.  Please see Mr. Orlano for an application.  Application deadline is before April 6th, 2018.

The Carroll County Corn Growers Association will offer two $300 scholarships to be awarded to two graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education in agriculture at an accredited college or university in the state of Iowa. Winners will also receive a one-year student membership to the Iowa Corn Grower Association (ICGA) for demonstrating exceptional leadership in the agriculture industry. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 15, 2018.

Guthrie County Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship: Applicants must declare their intent to pursue a medical or health related profession and have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.  Applications must be submitted by the third Friday of April.  Please see Mr. Orlano for application.

Dedham Sons of the American Legion:  Applications are in Mr. Orlano’s office.  Deadline is April 1st.

Carroll Co. Cattlemen’s Scholarship:  This scholarship is available to any individual who is a graduating High School senior and is planning to attend any post-secondary school, or to an individual who is already attending post-secondary school and continuing their education in the fall. 2. The Scholarship applicant will be chosen in a manner determined by the Carroll County Cattlemen’s Association Board of Directors. An application shall be completed and returned by April 15, 2018 with a copy of academic records. 3. The scholarship applicant’s parents must also be members of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association with a 3 year paid membership for Carroll County.

Carroll County Agricultural Scholarship: Must be a resident of Carroll County.  The scholarship is to be used for tuition only.  Applications must be returned to the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce office by March 25th.  Please see Mr. Orlano for applications.  

West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation Scholarship:  The Phillip L. Myer D.O. Scholarship is offering a $5,000 scholarship for residents of Iowa who live in a 30 mile radius of Manning Regional Healthcare Center.  Must plan to be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited medical school.  Please see Mr. Orlano for application.  Deadline is March 16th, 2018

Mary Meiners Memorial Scholarship:  The Mary Meiners scholarship recognizes the efforts of those planning to pursue a career in the field of nursing.  Applicant must have a residence within a 15 mile radius of Manning Regional Healthcare Center.  Please see Mr. Orlano for application.  Application deadline is Friday March 16th. 2018.

St. Anthony Regional Hospital Scholarship:  St. Anthony Regional Scholarship is now available in Mr. Orlano's office.  Please see Mr. Orlano for details.  Deadline is Friday March 30th, 2018.

Doyle Beeber Scholarship:  Dolye Beeber Scholarship is now available in Mr.Orlano's office.  Please see him for details.  Deadline is April 27th, 2018.

The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) will again offer the Iowa Corn Future of Agriculture scholarships to aid in the development of future talent for the Iowa agriculture industry. This year, Iowa Corn will award sixteen (16) $1,000 one-year scholarships to deserving, qualified students enrolled at an accredited U.S. 2-year or 4-year junior college, college or university, or graduate school, in a program of study to equip them in contributing to Iowa’s agriculture industry. To apply or go to www.iowacorn.org Application deadline is February 2nd 2018.

The DMACC Foundation  has a scholarship that only high school students graduating this Spring/2018 can apply for and they are not competing against any current DMACC students. 

Scholarships offered range from $250 up to $1000 and would be applied to the student’s Fall/2018 tuition bill.   For more information on this scholarship opportunity, please go to:  https://www.dmacc.edu/foundation/Pages/application.aspx.   If you would please, we need your assistance in getting the word out about this scholarship to the graduating seniors. 

 Application deadline is Friday, March 2nd.    IF students miss that deadline, they can still apply for a Fall/2018 DMACC Foundation Scholarship, however they would be competing against all other current DMACC students. 

 

Landus Cooperative is offering Excellence in Agriculture scholarship.  You may pick up an application in Mr. Orlano's office.

The Grand Lodge of Iowa.  The Grand Lodge as two scholarships available.  The first one is the Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A M Masonic schoarhip.  This is open to seniors interested inpursuing a post-secondary education in any state at an accredited institution.  This could be a two or four year college program.   Deadline is February 1st. 2018.  Please see Mr. Orlano for applications.

The Grand Lodge is also offering the MCEC technical scholarship.  This is offered to a senior who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College.  Deadline is March 1st, 2018.  Please see Mr. Orlano for applications.  

IOWA 4-H FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2018  The Iowa 4-H Foundation announces its 2018 scholarship program for current or former 4-H members planning to attend college in the fall of 2018.  The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced applications are now available for its 4-H scholarship program. Approximately 90 scholarship opportunities valued at over $100,000 will be awarded.The various scholarship awards range in amounts from $500 to $10,000. Some of the scholarships are open to students pursuing any field of study, while others are open to students pursuing degrees in agriculture, food and nutrition, ag business, animal science, and journalism.  Former and current Iowa 4-H members are eligible to apply for 4-H scholarships if they meet individual scholarship requirements, as determined by the scholarship donors. Applicants must enroll as a full-time student to receive scholarship awards.   While a majority of the 4-H scholarship opportunities are available for students attending Iowa State University, scholarships are also available to students planning to attend any Iowa university, Iowa private college, Iowa community college, or any land-grant university.   Information and applications for the 4-H scholarships are now available through the Iowa 4-H Foundation athttps://iowa4h.awardspring.com.  Applications must be submitted online no later than 11:59 PM, February 1, 2018 for consideration. Only one application form is needed for all Iowa 4-H scholarships. Eligible students may apply for more than one scholarship, however, only one scholarship per individual will be awarded per academic year.  “Iowa 4-H scholarships acknowledge the hard work and dedication of young people who have used their 4-H skills and experiences to ‘make the best better’ for others,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “We also are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H’ers.”  To further explore establishing a scholarship with the Iowa 4-H Foundation, please contact Mary Clancy, Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Coordinator at clancy@iastate.edu or 712-830-1321.

KEEP IOWA BEAUTIFUL TO AWARD FIVE $1000 SCHOLARSHIPS . Keep Iowa Beautiful will award five $1,000 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors in 2018.  Students who plan to enroll in an Iowa college or university to study environmental science, community development, landscape architecture or architecture (historical emphasis) or community planning and sustainability are eligible to apply.  "KIB seeks to foster positive values in younger generations and reinforce them in older generations. We encourage respect for home, neighborhood, community and state," said Gerry Schnepf, KIB Executive Director.  "KIB serves as a key resource for educating youth on the importance of environmental stewardship and community betterment."  Through the leadership of Bob Byers, KIB's Litter-Free School Campus program was initiated in northwest Iowa in 2003. In memory of Byer's dedication to young people and environmental concerns, KIB and the Byers family established the Byers Environmental Scholarship Fund in 2009.  "My dad recognized from the beginning that Keep Iowa Beautiful encourages youthful idealism and fosters service to community. This scholarship program is a great tribute to him," said Jay Byers. For more information or to apply on-line go to www.keepiowabeautiful.com/grants/byers.  Applications are due January 5, 2018 with notification in March.  All award recipients will be invited to a ceremony in the Governor's Office in Des Moines in April.     

Iowa Newspaper Foundation: The Iowa Newspaper Foundation has scholarships availble for students who wish to go into Journalism as a career.  Please to to www.INAnews.com for more information.  Deadline is Feb. 9, 2018.

NEW Cooperative Scholarship:  The NEW Cooperative, Inc is offering five $2,000 scholarships to fulltime agriculture students.  Applicants must be a NEW Cooperative member, a dependent of the NEW Cooperative member, or a dependent of a full time NEW Cooperative employees at the time of application.  Please see Mr. Orlano for application.  Application deadline is March 9th 2018.

Guthrie, Greene and Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District scholarship:  Guthrie, Greene and Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a $500.00 scholarship for high school seniors pursuing an education in agriculture.  Applications can be picked up in Mr. Orlano's office or by going to www.cdiowa.org Deadline is February 16th, 2018

POET Never Satisfied Scholarships are open to students enrolled for Fall Semester 2018 in any two- or four-year post-secondary school, regardless of major or GPA. Never Satisfied Scholars receive up to $5,000 each, and will have the opportunity to visit the POET Sioux Falls campus during the school year.  Application can be found at https://www.poet.com/scholarship

Horatio Alger Scholarship:  The 2017 Horatio Alger National and Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship:  This scholarship is opened to full time high school seniors in western Iowa.  Students with a strong commitment to completing a bachelor's degree and have critical financial need.  Please go to the following website.  www.horatioalger.org/scholarships for application.
