COON RAPIDS-BAYARD BOARD OF DIRECTORS

October 31, 2012 6:30 P.M.

 

Coon Rapids-Bayard Board of Directors met in regular session academic/curriculum meeting October 31, 2012 in the Media Center at the Coon Rapids-Bayard Int/Jr.-Sr. High School.

 

President Davis called the regular meeting to order at 6:30 P.M., Dentlinger verified/reviewed the public meeting notice posted in at least three locations (Int/Jr.-Sr. High School Commons-Coon Rapids, IA, News Gazette-Bayard, IA, Coon Rapids Enterprise-Coon Rapids, IA and Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities-Coon Rapids, IA) on October 29, 2012.  Present on roll call: Davis, Dentlinger, McAlister, Schlatter, Margie Schwenk, Principal Jorth, Supt. Stoffers, and Sec'y Hopkins.  Absent:  Anthofer, Carter and Oswald.

 

Harry Heiligenthal, Iowa Association of School Boards, was present.

 

McAlister moved to approve the agenda, seconded by Schlatter.  Ayes: Davis, Dentlinger, McAlister, and Schlatter.  Motion carried 4-0-3.

 

Board Goal Setting Workshop –

 

Harry Heiligenthal, IASB, facilitated the Board Goal Setting Workshop.  Mr. Heiligenthal reminded the Board that under Iowa law, the school board has the authority to:  determine major educational needs (280.12), adopt goals to improve student achievement and performance (280.18) and evaluate progress toward educational goals (280.12).

 

The Board and Administration Team identified four important areas to set goals.  Those four areas are as follows:  District Facilities, District Finances, Student Learning and Leadership.  The Board and Administrative Team identified and committed no more than 2-3 key short term goals under each of the four important areas, set indicators of progress (measures), monitoring schedule (report/discuss progress) and essential supports for those goals.

 

Mr. Heiligenthal reminded the Board to set a schedule or timeline to consistently review the Board Goals in the four major areas.

 

Moved by Dentlinger, seconded by McAlister to adjourn the regular meeting at 9:37 P.M.  Ayes:  Dentlinger, McAlister, Schlatter and Davis.  Motion carried 4-0-3.
