Coon Rapids-Bayard Parent-Teacher Organization
MINUTES
August 10th, 2010
The meeting was called to order by Karen Mohr with Julie Halbur, Brenda Heitoff, Angie Oswald and Tanya Hunt present.
- Treasurer’s Report – None available
- I. Secretary’s Report – Minutes were distributed and approved.
- II. Old Business
- School Supplies (backpacks) – Karen picked up supplies and put them in a Rubbermaid. The total cost for supplies plus some card games was around $100. Julie reported that NEW has started an initiative that employees and the company may be donating materials to the school as well. Supplies that were purchased were for Deal Elementary and we are still waiting to hear feedback from the Intermediate level as to supplies they would be interested in having on hand. We can certainly divide what we have or purchase some additional supplies. Also, if anyone has any clean gently used backpacks please give them to a PTO member. We would like to have some on hand at the school for children who may need them.
- Open House – We need to set up two booths for open house night on August 19th. Things we will need for the booth are a Volunteer Signup sheet, Angie will make this. Tanya will make signs to post projects that PTO has funded. We would like to have a donation jar as well, we will ask Rhonda if she has the one we used for the carnival and if she could make one more for us. The megaphones are in and they look great! Angie has 4 decorated for the table. We will also put a few of the playground items purchased on the tables. Angie will pick up two balloon bouquets as well. We plan on popping the popcorn ahead of time and keeping it in bags. We will meet on Wednesday at 6:00pm to do this. We are looking for volunteers to be at the booths. Let Tanya know if you can volunteer that evening. The objective is to welcome the kids back on behalf of PTO and try to get parents signed up to volunteer to some degree for PTO. Volunteering does not have to mean coming to every meeting but being willing to help out if needed. We also want to have an order form for the apparel and spirit items we will be selling, Karen will work on getting this.
- T-Shirt Art Work – Karen contacted Shane Hart with The Identity Group who put together 4 designs. The group decided on designs 1, 3 and 4. They are kid and adult friendly. For apparel we will sell T-Shirts, Sweatshirts and Beanie Hats. Karen will get back to Shane so we can decide on a final price for products and send out order forms the first week of school. When order forms return we will fill orders and add some additional items to sell at events. Karen will be sending an email around so we can have final consensus on pricing as it will be difficult to meet again and we need to keep moving on this to ensure products are here before too long. Tanya will talk to Rena Shaw about getting PTO back on web page so we can put order form on line as well.
- Crusader Spirit Items – We reviewed items to be sold and decided on tattoos (cheerleaders will not be doing them this year), foam fingers, spirit ribbons, bags and red and black bead necklaces. Angie will be making the order form for these items. We will have to decide on a price. We will be sending out the order forms as well as setting up a table at various events throughout the year.
- Playground Project – Tanya will be meeting with Tara Lange on Wednesday at 4:30 to chalk out where we will want things painted. Tanya will check with Mr. Stoffers to see if we can post an announcement on channel 3 to close the playground so no one will come to use it when painting is occurring. Supplies were purchased at Hardware Hank and will be more than $50. Tanya set up an account at Hardware Hank for the project and we can pay when the project is complete.
-
Next meeting will be to pop the popcorn on Wednesday, August 18th at 6:00pm at the High School.
