Two Advance To All-State

by Rena Shaw

March 13, 2008

On Saturday, March 8th the CR-B Individual Events Speech team traveled to State Speech Contest at Northwest Webster in Manson, Iowa.  The day proved to be "ONE" great day for the team as all the entries that competed all earned "I" ratings.

But the team wasn't done yet! They soon found out that Molly McAlister and Ann Halverson were invited to present their performances at the 30th Annual All-State Festival on Monday, March 31 at UNI in Cedar Falls.

"The philosophy of the IHSSA is to encourage and foster student participation in speech activities and subsequently human communications.  The Festival setting-showcase of Iowa's top talent--is viewed as a vital means of encouraging participation by students. To have been selected out of nearly 9,000 who started competition at the District level is an unique honor.  400 students have been selected as Outstanding Performers."

Molly who competed in both Acting and Poetry, was asked to perform both her pieces at All-State.  Molly wrote her acting piece which was about a young girl waiting for a train to Auschwitz during the Holocaust.  "Molly is such a talented fine arts student.  She has been a joy to work with, and her talents add much to the IE program." said IE Coach, Mrs. Jepson.

Anna also competed in both Acting and Poetry and was asked to perform her Acting selection. This selection had Anna acting out how funny a small child can be when she is armed with a big imagination.  Coach Jepson commented that, "Anna is a young lady with unlimited energy.  When she does her pieces, she gives them so much life!!  She's so energetic, we sometimes have to say 'Whoa, Anna!', but her energy was definitely perfect for her All-State selection."

Congratulations to Mrs. Jepson and the whole IE Speech team for their achievements at State!!

Good Luck To Molly And Anna In Their Performances At All-State!
