English IV is a two semester course designed for students who are planning to enter the world of work shortly after leaving high school or plan to attend a two year post secondary school. The course of study is made up of four core units: Unit 1-Learning to Learn, Unit 2-Setting Goals, Unit 3-Selecting a Career, and Unit 4-Preparing for the World of Work. A workplace vocabulary unit and a review of conventions is also included in the course of study. Unit 1 works with the student's reading, thinking, and learning skills. Unit 2 helps the student establish primary and secondary goals that will pertain to their career choice. In Unit 3, students research possible career choices concluding with a five page research paper and a 6-8 minute oral slide presentation on a career of choice. In the final core unit, students go through the fundamental steps of applying for a job as they familiarize themselves with the workplace and the current work force of today.
