Teacher Biography: Ms. Jepson
Marilyn Jepson grew up in Soldier, IA. Her birth date is February 11th. She attended East Monona Community Schools in Moorhead, IA. While in school, she was involved in the following: girl's chorus, mixed chorus, vocal solo, and ensemble; girl's track, softball, and basketball manager; FHA (FCCLA), individual speech; plays; yearbook staff, and editor. After graduating high school, she attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE.
Ms. Jepson has been teaching in the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District for 38 years, starting her first year in the Fall of 1969. The classes that she teaches are Basic Communications with sophomores, English IV, and World Literature, both with seniors. Her favorite parts about teaching are the students and the challenges that her profession demands. She decided to become a teacher because she was inspired by her sophomore English instructor who was a gentle spirit, but challenged you academically and made you tap into your creative talents.
Her husband, Bruce is currently retired and is a part-time Industrial Technology instructor. He owns his own painting company, dabbles in woodworking, and umpires girl's softball. Ms. Jepson and her husband met as sophomores when their schools consolidated. They became high school sweethearts and married in 1968. She is proud to say that Bruce has been a part of her life for 46 years. They currently reside in the town of Glidden.
She enjoys spending her free time with her family - Melissa Jepson (Vocal Music Teacher) who lives in Whiting, IA, Michael (School Curriculum Administrator) and Jenn (Title Teacher) Jepson of Williamsburg, IA, as well as her two grandchildren, Landon (3 years old) and Kendall (2 weeks old). She also enjoys reading and traveling. Her favorite type of TV shows are Hallmark Specials. The Iowa Hawkeyes rank first on her list of favorite sports teams. She also cheers for the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders and the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats. There is no particular sport she enjoys watching; she just loves watching young people compete. As for her favorite restaurant, she likes anything with an atmosphere and good food.
When asked what famous person she would like to meet, Ms. Jepson replied that she would like to meet Jesus because she wants to meet the person who has done so much for her. Although not famous, she would also have liked to meet her grandfather who she never had the chance to.
