Reading: The kids have been
doing a lot of reading! They recognize
letters, know the sounds the letters make, and are learning how to blend those
sounds together to make words. Students
have also been working hard on their everyday words (sight words). They are becoming more and more confident
readers and writers as they practice sounding out words and using their
everyday words to make sentences. We
will continue to build words and do more reading and writing as we are
introduced to more letter people.
Math: Students have been
learning how to write numbers 1-20 on lined paper, straight and tall. During the 2nd quarter, we will be
doing a lot of hands-on activities focusing on sorting, classifying, comparing,
and measuring.
We also continue
to have center time and work on special projects and units in the afternoons.
Winter DIBELS
testing will be done on Tuesday, January 12th. Kindergarten students will be assessed on
letter naming, beginning sounds, nonsense words (lut,
sim), and segmenting (breaking words apart into
sounds).
You’ll be
receiving a letter in late January letting you know how your child performed on
the DIBELS assessment.
Thank you to
everyone for attending our Christmas program in December. The kids did a FANTASTIC job!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mohr
