This unit will prepare students to use the correct punctuation and capitalization necessary when constructing written materials. This will be the basic foundation for more advanced writing activities.

This unit will provide students with the skills necessary to construct various written items using correct grammar. They will use the parts of speech correctly to form intelligible original sentences and paragraphs.

This unit will allow students to put into practice the information gained in the first two units. Students will expand their written assignments into composition of multiple paragraphs and short stories.

Students will gain important life skills as they learn how to compose all kinds of written correspondence including simple notes, postcards, friendly letters, and business letters. Each type of written correspondence relates to specific situations that will help build skills necessary for post-high school life.

They will understand when words need capitalization.

They will understand the various types of punctuation and when each type is needed.

Students will identify nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives and use them correctly in a sentence.

They will understand and use abstract and concrete nouns, action, helping, and linking verbs, adverbs, and adjectives correctly.

 

Students will express their creativity through writing. They will understand the meaning of words and ideas.

They will write originals sentences, paragraphs, and short stories.

They will be able to compose an intelligible paragraph or story from a visual prompt.

Students will write messages and thank you notes.

Clear explanations of letter parts and plentiful practice will give students an understanding of the proper forms for friendly and business letters as well as instruction in addressing envelopes.

Students will compose formal letters using the titles MR., MRS., and MS.
